Surya informs his family that he promised Imlie he would help her complete her studies and he intends to keep that promise. Indira questions if he’s willing to go against her for this. CJ clarifies that this isn’t about opposing Indira; Surya made the right decision and should prepare to leave for Banaras.
Indira asks Surya if she’s always wrong and if he’s defying her order against Imlie’s education. Surya explains that she taught him to stand up against wrongdoing, and in this case, she is wrong. Indira storms off in anger. Mahesh expresses his concern about the situation. Surya sees his family’s problems as his own and decides to go calm Tai Amma down, acknowledging that she is upset because of him.
Surya approaches Indira, who is gardening, and asks her what she’s up to. Indira questions when she became against education. Surya mentions that Imlie said she would work after studying. Indira expresses her fear that Imlie will take him away from her and completely ruin him.
Surya reassures her, saying he can differentiate between right and wrong for himself, and Imlie cannot harm him. He urges Indira to look into his eyes and tell him if he is wrong. Indira responds by saying that what he is doing, and for whom he is doing it, is wrong.
At night, Malti informs Anjali that Surya is taking Imlie to Banaras. Anjali’s imagination runs wild as she envisions Imlie romancing Surya and pulling him to bed. She yells, “Surya, stop!” Malti brings her back to reality and asks where she’s lost. Anjali realizes she can’t let her nightmare come true and decides to stop Imlie and Surya from going to Banaras.
The next morning, Surya packs Imlie’s documents and clothes for their trip. Feeling guilty for misunderstanding him, Imlie reflects on her actions. Nirmala, along with Indira and Hemalatha, watches from the window and curses Imlie, accusing her of insulting her and Indira and insisting she shouldn’t get her admit card.
Imlie and Surya seek CJ’s blessings before leaving and look for Indira and Nirmala. CJ advises them not to worry about the elderly and sees them off. He then approaches Indira and Nirmala, questioning why they didn’t come down to bid farewell to the children. Nirmala complains that Imlie and Surya humiliated her and Indira by disobeying their orders.
CJ remarks that Nirmala never liked Surya and tells Indira that she should have come down to bless the kids, knowing they are not wrong.
In the car, Surya teases Imlie, who responds by saying that one can live without oxygen but not without hope. She thanks him for giving her hope again. When they reach the bus station, Surya inquires about the bus to Banaras from the conductor and goes to buy snacks. Meanwhile, Imlie heads to the washroom. Anjali locks the door from the outside.
Surya purchases samosas, and Anjali approaches him, questioning if he has changed his habits for Imlie now. Surya retorts, asking why she is following him even here. Anjali warns him not to go with Imlie, claiming that she is trapping him and should go alone. Surya warns Anjali to stop interfering in his life. Anjali asserts that Imlie will not show up. Surya asks what she did to Imlie. Anjali insists that he declare his love for her alone.
